How this calculation works

The calculator first produces the notice result with no leave effect, then repeats the same calculation with your selected leave treatment. Both the original and adjusted dates remain visible.

Calculation methodology

A no-effect rule leaves the counted duration unchanged. An extension adds the entered leave days; a reduction subtracts them, but never below one counted notice day. Other notice assumptions stay the same in both calculations.

WorkExitPlan calculates from the rules you select. It does not guess your employer's notice policy.

Worked examples

Three days of leave extend notice

Resign on 1 September 2026 with 30 calendar days beginning the next day. The original estimate is 1 October. If three leave days extend notice, the adjusted estimate is 4 October 2026.

Leave has no effect

With the same dates and three leave days, selecting no effect keeps both the original and adjusted estimate at 1 October 2026.

Two days reduce a ten-day notice

Resign on 1 January 2026 with ten calendar days beginning the next day. The original estimate is 11 January; a two-day reduction gives 9 January 2026.

Why the employer date may differ

  • Some employers prohibit leave during notice while others allow it without changing the end date.
  • A policy may extend notice by approved leave days or reduce notice only after separate approval.
  • Working-day leave and calendar-day leave can be recorded differently.
