How this calculation works
For a joining target, the calculator first removes the desired clear break to obtain a target last working day. It then searches backwards for the latest resignation date that reproduces that last day under your notice settings.
Calculation methodology
Reverse planning uses the same tested forward engine as the other notice calculators. Each candidate resignation date is checked against the chosen duration, start-day convention, counting basis, workweek, excluded dates, leave rule and end-date adjustment.
WorkExitPlan calculates from the rules you select. It does not guess your employer's notice policy.
Worked examples
Target last working day
For a target last day of 1 April 2026, 90 calendar days and next-day counting, the latest estimated resignation date is 1 January 2026.
Target joining date with a three-day break
A joining target of 12 May 2026 with three clear break days requires a last working day of 8 May. With 30 calendar days beginning the next day, the latest estimated resignation date is 8 April 2026.
Why the employer date may differ
- A joining date offered by the next employer may change.
- Your current employer may calculate notice from receipt or acceptance rather than the date you enter.
- Leave, holidays, waiver or pay in lieu may alter the final timeline.
